Chapter 6

Being some one who does not have cable when they are at home, when I come to school I am like a kid and a candy store. Cable has made it so easy to watch television. There, for the most part, is always something on. The ease of being able to sit down and flip on the television and be entertained is one of the things that we have grown accustomed to. When I am at home and only get the basic channels it is very say for me to turn off the television and go do something else. But here there is always the prospect of something being on. Cable opened the doors for a wide range a viewing opportunities.

The focus of not only viewers, but sponsors always, is shifting from broadcast channels to cable. One of the reasons cable is able to be as successful is because they offer so much more than the broadcast channels. The specific channels that are not avaliable on regular television is what makes cable so valuable. Channels like MTV and ESPN which are targeted at a specific audiences. This is what makes cable so valuable. Also premium channels like HBO are also a big incentive to getting cable.Cable has also made viewing television easier. With the On Demand channels you are able to choose movies right from your couch. You can send it to any television in the house and on some providers start over the show or movie. Another thing that has made cable much more easier is DVR. The ability to record shows. The newest thing that has come out is being able to set your DVR from your phone. The simplicity and benefits of cable seem to out weigh the fact that you have to pay for it.

Now the ability for cable to go wireless is another frontier that is being explored. Now that our society has become so high tech we are no longer satisfied with being able to watch television when we get home we have the need to take our television shows with us where ever we go. This new horizon that we have come across is just another thing that we can add to our media life. Now we can always ve connected to the shows we want.
