In this chapter we talked about free speech and what that means. Personally I think the fact that we are able to speak our mind and live in a country where we can do that is great. Yet I do believe that when it comes to some situations what is able to be put on the internet should be regulated. For example, people should not be able to post how to be anorexic, or how to make drugs should not be allowed on the internet. I understand that people have freedom of speech and and I think that is a great thing but if someone's right to say what they want can hurt another person then what they are allowed to say should be regulated.
Another thing that I think should be regulated that we discussed in class, is that if what someone says is going to damage a person's career like in the "Red Scare". I don't think that it is right for a person to be able to destroy some one else's career. And like in the federal case where the journalist leaked the name of the agent I do believe that she should get in trouble for destroying that person's career.
Something that I agree with that we talked about in class is Net Neutrality. I don't think that it is fair what so ever that some sites would load faster because of the amount of money that the creator of the site has. There are so many original things that we would never see because the sites would never load. Like our blogs, it would take a long time for our sites to load because, well, we don't have any money to put into our sites. So much would be lost if this were to pass and would take so much away from the internet.

Chapter 11
Not being a media major I never really realized how much adverting there is on television. Taking this class really opened my eyes to how many different places ads are. Now when I watch a show on television I always see the product placement. One thing that we talked about in class was, should we have commercials on television that we pay for? Personally I don't really think it is that big of a deal, to me it is kind of one of those things that people complain about just to have something to complain about. For me commercials open up new products to me, and unless they are really excessive, I don't think people really notice them.
One thing that I do notice and that does bother me is product placement. I think that if we are watching a show, then there shouldn't be ads in the show, we are getting enough of those during the commercial break. I will say that some times it is cool to see something that you own in the show but most of the time it is just a beer bottle or clothing label, but other time it is so obvious. And my thought is, if I am watching your show I shouldn't be bombarded with ads in the show.
There is also now so many different ways the companies can advertise now. In earlier years it would just be magazines, newspapers, ratio, and television. Now people are on the internet for hours upon hours a day going to from website to website. The way that companies can reach people has increased so much. Companies are able to reach more people and are able to target a specific type of people. Also people who are accessing the internet are getting younger and younger, the the advertising world is opened up to a greater about of people, and a greater age range of people.

Chapter 10
In this chapter the authors talk about how books have been able to still be a prominent medium even with the creation of new media. Personally I know that many times I will choose to read books over watching television or surfing the Internet. For me, while growing up, books were a huge part of my life. Me and my sisters would always read before going to bed, and still do! Its hard for me to think that book aren't apart of some people's lives. For me it opened up a whole new world for me. It showed me lives of people who were completely different from me. I have very fond memories of my mom reading to me and my sisters when we were younger.
From talking about in class and from the text book the next step for books is going digital. People I know are getting the Kindle, and what ever else is out there to read books on. Personally I would never get anything like that. I love to have the actual book, being able to turn the pages. It does make sense to me that books would get there some day, and I guess if I was going on a trip or something and didn't want to bring 10 books that might be the only reason that I would consider something like that. I think I would even get an audio book, something that was read to me, rather than an electronic book.
When it comes to purchasing books I would much rather go to a book store rather than buying them online. There is just something about going to a book store that is so relaxing, and usually I don't know what I am looking for, so half the fun it figuring that out. When I was younger my family would go to the library almost every weekend. To me reading is such a great value that I have I hope that I can pass it on to my children when I have them.
